Emma Watson brought a little black magic to the red carpet at the New York premiere of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows last night.

The actress dazzled onlookers in a slinky floor length dress and heels, with a gold glittery clip in her new pixie hairdo as she arrived at the Alice Tully Hall in Manhattan.

She was joined on the red carpet by her Harry Potter co-stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Tom Felton.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick,  Gabourey Sidibe and Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon also turned out for the occasion.

While Emma may have looked effortlessly chic, there was of course a team on hand to make sure her look was just spell-binding.

A make-up artist was spotted topping up her foundation with a pink sponge in the back seat  of her car just moments before she faced the cameras.

Once on the red carpet, she turned around to reveal a sophisticated backless number with crossover straps.

The actress revealed her dress had been designed specially for her by Calvin Klein Collection.

‘I asked Calvin Klein Collection if they would make a dress for me because I love their stuff and they did,’ she told MTV News.

And after her dramatic change of haircut hit the headlines, she revealed she wouldn’t be doing anything more to change her look.

‘The hair is as dramatic as it goes,’ she laughed. ‘I think I’d have to shave it to get any more dramatic.’

‘I’m loving it,’ she added to E! News. ‘I don’t really miss it. I’m not going to lie. I can wash my head, in a basin, in a sink. Takes me like five minutes to get ready. It’s great.’

Watson was spotted chatting to one of her style idols – Sarah Jessica Parker – who had brought her son James Wilkie.

‘Her son is a big Harry Potter fan; we’ve spoken on a number of occasions. She’s a big fashion icon of mine,’ said Watson.

Watson is currently studying at Brown University in the US where history classes are her favourite.

She admits it can be tricky juggling her education with fame.

‘It is pretty tough,’ she says. ‘But I have to be very organised with my time and just do my best.’

Meanwhile, Radcliffe has been preparing for the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which opens in March.

‘I’m doing a huge amount of singing lessons and dancing lessons,’ he said.
