Somber Tribute Outside Warsaw Prosecutor’s Office Amid Controversy Over Barbara Skrzypek’s Death
On Sunday afternoon, a poignant display of candles and flowers appeared outside the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office—a tribute linked to the recent death of Barbara Skrzypek, the longtime aide to Jarosław Kaczyński. Skrzypek, who passed away on Saturday, March 15, had been interrogated at the office just days before her untimely demise.
Anonymous social media users on platform X initially called for the tribute, and TV Republika captured the moment live as supporters placed the first candles and wreaths on March 16. At that time, Karol Nawrocki, a PiS presidential candidate, was addressing his supporters in Kluczbork.
The controversy deepened when Jarosław Kaczyński, speaking on TV Republika during his appearance in Siedlce, suggested that the circumstances surrounding Skrzypek’s death were directly linked to her interrogation by Prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek in the investigation into the “Two Towers” affair. “Had she not been subjected to that interrogation in the first place—an investigation many say was entirely fabricated—this tragedy might have been avoided,” Kaczyński asserted, echoing claims that have circulated among PiS politicians and supportive media over the weekend.
In response, Prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek clarified on Monday that the interrogation had taken place on Wednesday, noting that since then no complaints or procedural irregularities had been reported by Skrzypek’s representative. “There has been no indication that the manner in which the interrogation was conducted warrants any formal objection,” she stated.
It is also remembered that Barbara Skrzypek had stepped away from her role in the PiS office five years ago due to persistent health issues—a period marked by daily struggles, as Kaczyński revealed in an interview with wPolsce24, describing her condition as involving constant nosebleeds. No official cause of death has been disclosed.
As the candles and flowers continued to be laid throughout the day, the display not only symbolized mourning but also underscored the ongoing debate over accountability and transparency in the investigation. The emotional tribute and heated remarks have left many questioning the true factors behind this tragic loss.
