Geoff Payne was seen embracing two emotional young female fans of his singer son Liam outside the Hotel CasaSur Palermo in Buenos Aires where the former One Direction star died
Liam Payne’s devastated father, Geoff Payne, has made another visit to the makeshift memorial created by fans outside the Buenos Aires hotel where his son tragically fell to his death.
He spent a few moments reading messages of support and observing the floral tributes left by a tree outside Hotel CasaSur Palermo, as a small group of Liam’s fans looked on.
Geoff was seen holding a red rose, which he later placed at the memorial after taking time to appreciate the tributes to his late son. He also shared a touching moment with two emotional young female fans who handed him a lit candle, which he also placed at the base of the tree adorned with messages and flowers. Out of respect for Liam’s father, we have not included pictures from this visit.
According to Argentinian media, Geoff is expected to return to the UK on Thursday “or probably Friday”, though no reason has been given for the delay.
Geoff made his first visit to the fan-made shrine outside the boutique hotel where his son Liam, 31, tragically died, two days after the October 16 incident. He had flown 7,000 miles from the UK to expedite the repatriation process.
As of now, Argentinian prosecutors have not confirmed the results of the toxicology and tissue tests that Geoff was informed would need to be completed before repatriation could take place. This information was relayed during a meeting with officials on October 21.
Liam’s untimely death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel sparked an investigation initially linked to a substance-induced ‘psychotic episode’ without any ‘third-party’ involvement. Nearly two weeks ago, police raided the boutique hotel where he had been staying to inspect computers and paperwork, believed to be part of a search for his drug dealer.
There is speculation that someone from his hotel was providing him with narcotics.
During his first visit to the area, Geoff paid a visit to the shrine outside Liam’s hotel and was also allowed into the third-floor suite where the former One Direction star had been staying. He was given permission to collect his son’s clothes and other personal items that investigators no longer needed.
Thousands of heartbroken fans have signed a petition calling for a memorial in honour of Liam Payne, who was in Argentina with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy before she returned to the US just days prior to his death. The fans are asking for a permanent “structure or mural” in his hometown of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands.
Details about Liam’s funeral are expected to be announced soon. A close friend was quoted earlier today saying: “He will have a very big send off, quite probably at a large cathedral somewhere close to his heart.”
